& Artist
Welcome to my website and the wonderful and addictive world of Paverpol!

A little bit about me

My name is Pamela Ireland-Woods and I am a mother of 2 amazing adult children, 3 dogs and 2 cats. At the young age of 53, I discovered I had a hidden talent. While browsing through Facebook, I saw a friend post the most beautiful and unique sculpture I had ever seen! I reached out and asked what it was made out of and that is when my life changed. I started researching the product, Paverpol, searched Pinterest for all of the amazing sculptures out there, and started to search high and low for tutorials and where I could buy the product. After finding Andrea at Paverpol Canada, I bought my very first few products, found some amazing tutorials on the Curious Mondo website (you can find their website in my links tab!) and my amazing journey began!

"But I'm not an artist", I kept saying. I have no idea how to create sculptures out of armatures and tin foil. The whole idea seemed scary at first, then once I started "playing" and working with the product, I created my very first piece, Zendaya (photo below). Friends and family were in awe at my work as was I! That was back in October 2021.

Flash forward to May 2022, after creating & selling numerous sculptures, my mind constantly spinning with ideas and creations I could make, I decided to take the plunge and get my certification for being a Paverpol Instructor with Tamara at Paverpol Niagara. In 7 short months I had created over 40 pieces, sold over 10, created and sold 5 commissioned pieces and was asked to be a part of RAW Artists Canada in July 2022. So how's that for not being an artist? Pretty shocking right?! Now I want to share the products, the process and my sculptures with all of you!
What is Paverpol?

Paverpol Sculpting Medium is an environmentally-friendly textile hardener, offering endless possibilities to shape your creativity. It was developed in the Netherlands and came to Canada in 2007. Paverpol dries quickly, but slowly enough to allow for plenty of open working time. It adheres to almost all materials (except plastic) and unlike most hardeners, it doesn’t deteriorate polystyrene foam. Despite this, it easily washes off your hands and tools with warm water. (Please note: do not wash excess product down the drain.) Best of all, it is the first product of its kind that has received the AP seal for non-toxicity from the ACMI (Arts and Creative Materials Institute). This means it's safe for kids too and also non-toxic to all of my fur babies!!

Finished projects become hardened with no additional products required. It is suitable for indoor and outdoor use, though for outdoor use I recommend Josephine Varnish. Varnish is especially recommended if your piece is painted with acrylic paints or will be in a high-humidity area. This will keep your piece beautiful and help you avoid mildew and decay.
Paverpol comes in 6 colors: Transparent, White, Black, Lead Grey, Bronze, and Peach. It comes in a variety of sizes, giving you great options for any project. It can be purchased in 500 gram, 1000 gram, and 5000/5750 gram pots and buckets.

Paverpol adheres to all natural materials. You can use it with just about anything, such as wool, cotton, wood, leather, paper, silk, self-hardening clay, polystyrene foam, dried flowers, wood, plaster, and pottery. It stabilizes and hardens these objects through and through.

To use, dip your textile in the Paverpol, squeeze out the excess and make sure the fabric is completed coated. Then, drape or wrap this around a sturdy base, framework, or armature and let it dry. The best part is, you will see folds and creases appear as you are draping, which is what will make your sculpture unique and stand out in the end! Paverpol dries quickly, but for a quicker dry time you can use a hair dryer to speed the process up. After curing, you’ll have a beautiful and long lasting decoration or sculpture! These finished projects are suitable for both indoor and outdoor use. You can also use Paverpol with canvas, a panel, or a decorative object like a vase. The possibilities are endless!

Paverpol becomes rock hard, with no additives needed to get a long-lasting piece. For outdoor objects I recommend first letting your project harden completely inside. Once hardened, apply 2 layers of varnish –such as our beautiful Josefine Varnish, to protect your work. Material hardened with Paverpol can be placed in your garden all year round, come rain or shine! Finished projects will last for years to come, winter storms and rainy days won’t dampen their beauty. Natural materials soaked in Paverpol are even fire retardant! While Paverpol can survive on its own outside, the varnish will help preserve your project and provide extra protection from the elements. High humidity can potentially cause your artwork to turn white, or grow mildew. The varnish will prevent these side effects.
Paverpol goes great in combination with our other products to add beautiful textures and colors to your work. Try Paverplast, Pavercolor, Paverpol Wrappers, Stockinette, Relief Decoration, Art Stone, Pavercotton, Josefine varnish, Paversand, and Paverscrub!
